MaJillo Virtual had a customer that was not happy with their web host provider's web mail client so asked if MaJillo Virtual could move their email to GMail. This should have been a simple 10 minute job involving the following steps:
I have done this multiple times with minimal issues.
Well, go figure that my first client would have issues with their web host provider. All his emails transferred over to GMail and he could send email just fine using the @gmail.com email address; however, when his domain name, @fakecompany.com, was used as his default reply-from address, GMail complained about TLS and the incorrect host being used in the certificate.
I submitted a ticket to their web host provider to resolve the cert issue. It took them 2 business days to respond to the ticket. Calls to support were unsuccessful as I was left waiting for at least 40 minutes each time I tried. When they finally got back to me, I was told they do not support SSL/TLS! That is pretty shocking by today's security standards. Once I knew this, getting GMail to send with his domain name was a trivial task; although not an optimal setup due to the lack of TLS.
After providing this service, MaJillo Virtual provided an evaluation of the service of the web provider and recommended to the customer to urge their provider to enable SSL/TLS on their website and email.
